Get Up, Get Out and Go Walk!

Now I have posted before about the idea of just making the choice to change your day, your life and your health and then you will start to change. This is it, today. Dead Poet’s Society, Carpe Diem!

I have moved and thus lost my gym membership. I loved the gym, went as often as possible, felt like it was a special trip just for me. Alas, I am not the pampered person who can take the two hours it was costing me to go there, do all the lifting , the cardio and then the stretching required to make me fit, happy and feel good. So when I moved I decided to get out and do as much as possible in the limited time I have between calls. It is tough to make that decision, I am going to go for that 2 mile walk. Ok, 6 AM call done now get up, change, oh yeah, eat something, well I should check the e-mails while I eat, now I have to respond to that one, review that letter, set up the spreadsheet, send it back. Now it’s time for the next call and I have not walked, I am tired from the food and man, I am not getting it done.

After a few weeks of not meeting my work out goals I have packed on a little weight, feel tired more and am pretty darn mad at myself. So here is my new motto.

Get up and go! Simple. I put on the workout clothes first thing and as soon as I get the first break in my day I do something fitness oriented. If it is a 45 minute break I go for a walk.

30 minute break I do sit ups, lunges and small hand weights.

If I am tired I go for a quick walk up the block and I am warmer and more alert then a cup of coffee would make me.

So quick start tip of the week, just do it, start somewhere. If you have a lunch break scheduled, get the tennis shoes on first thing and take the first 15 minutes to go for a walk. This will rev up the metabolism, make the food taste better and get you more fit. Experts say that exercise can add up, that 15 minutes added to the walking the dog at night or playing with the kids means you get your 1/2 hour of exercise in without thinking. That’s great news with summer here!

So get up and go and Don’t Ever Stop!
